A curtainsider trailer, is the generic name for a curtain sided type of trailer. Curtainsiders usually have a hard-shell roof, solid front bulkhead, conventional rear doors and a retractable curtain along both sides.
The sails of the tautliners can be fully slid back and forth on both sides, so the cargo can easily be loaded and unloaded from the side, usually by means of a forklift. The flexible sails make the curtainsider trailers suitable for various types of transport, from general pallet goods to large equipment that is difficult to load or unload. By sliding the sails open, you also have quick access to goods throughout the trailer. This can be useful if, for example, you have to deliver goods to several places on a route.
Another advantage of a curtainsider trailer is that, once the curtains are closed, the cargo is instantly protected from the elements without the need to spend time covering it, as may be required with a flatbed trailer or a (semi) low loader.
A curtainsider may also be a refrigerated trailer, offering the benefits of a temperature controlled trailer with that of easy access via the side. This variety is referred to as an “insuliner”.
